Bangladesh Jute Mills Association(BJMA)


Bangladesh Jute Mills Association was founded in 1982 as the government started to denationalize the then private owned jute mills and returning them to private ownership. Jute Mills Association has been incorporated on 21-04-1984 under the companies Act (Act VII) of 1913 by the Registrar of Joint Stock Company. Initially, BJMA is composed of 35 Jute Mills and former advisor (Minister) of Jute Ministry Mr. M. A. Sattar was the first Chairman of Bangladesh Jute Mills Association. At present about 240 (Two hundred forty) Jute Mills has got their membership from BJMA.



Diversified Jute Goods :-



Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) has developed around 400 entrepreneurs to diversify jute products, out of which 60% are women. These entrepreneurs are producing 282 types of diversified jute goods. Currently, diversified jute products of Bangladesh are being exported to 118 countries around the world. The entrepreneurs are going to get affiliation with Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA) very soon. At Present, the entrepreneurs produce their products by purchasing Fine Jute Febrics (FJF) from the mills that are now the members of BJMA. By obtaining the membership of BJMA, the entrepreneurs will have an opportunity than before to purchase Fine Jute Febrics (FJF) directly from the member’s mill and also get their subsidy from the government.

The BJMA Board Consisted total 12 (Twelve) Directors. Among them 01 (One) Chairman, 01 (One) Vice–Chairman and 10 (Ten) Directors. Md. Abul Hossain is the present Chairman of BJMA. The Member Mills of BJMA have exported 2.5 Lac tons of jute product to different countries in 2020-21 and earned about 3,000 (Three thousand ) crore taka. About more than 01 (One) lac workers directly engaged in Jute Sector. BJMA follows its own Articles of Association, Company Act-1994 and Trade Organization Act-2022. 


Bangladesh is the Second largest Jute producing and largest Jute products exported country in the world. Bangladesh produces the best quality of jute in the world. From a very long time, Bangladesh has been producing raw jute and exporting it in abroad and earns foreign exchange, and also sold it in the local market. So it is called the golden fiber of Bangladesh. Generally, hessian, sacking and carpet backing cloth (CBC) are being produced by using jute. Jute is also used to produce yarn in different counts. Being an environment friendly product, the demand of jute and jute products are high worldwide. Since Jute is a natural fiber and thus it is not harmful for the environment and human health. It is also biodegradable and compostable. In every year almost 80-90 lac bales of raw jute is produced in Bangladesh (1 bale = 4.86 mund). Even various diversified jute products are also now being made from jute and exported abroad and also sold in the domestic market. For the development of this sector, the government provides cash incentive to promote export of jute goods and diversified jute products. After garments jute is the second largest export earner in Bangladesh. 80% of the jute products produced in Bangladesh is exported to foreign markets and 20% are sold in the domestic market. The environment would be saved if the mandatory jute packaging Act-2010 would have been implemented 100%.
